About the festival

GENDER EQUALITY IN ENTERTAINMENT

Based in Austin, TX, GIFT Fest tackles the challenge of gender equality in entertainment by focusing on our next generation of filmmakers and creators. We believe that by ensuring girls or people who are nonbinary are 50% of the equation, projects are improved. Thus, they’re “girl improved.”

Our one-day festival begins with a series of panels highlighting students in tandem with professional artists. The rest of the fest is separated into show blocks that showcase content created by youth who identify as female or nonbinary. Each piece is ten minutes or less and features a standalone Q&A. During breaks, attendees peruse the art gallery displaying work by like-minded individuals. We conclude the festivities with a reception, featuring a girl-improved band, and an awards program.

ImprovEd Arts is a sponsored project of Austin Creative Alliance. This project is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.

Award winners receive cash prizes. Our award categories include:

- One to Watch
- Best Story
- The Audience Award
- The Shelter-in-Place Award
- The Heart of Texas Award
- The Ally Award
- The D&T Figlio Girl Improved Best of Fest Award
