There are two stories here: one in which Rhett hugs his wife goodbye and one in which he doesn't. The difference of those few seconds of affection is the exact amount of time that separates these parallel worlds and despite the minor discrepancy the result is a nightmare for the latter man - Rhett's son has died in a car accident and now a tree falls onto the road. In one parallel world it falls behind Rhett, in the other it blocks his path. The two worlds converge at this exact moment and the chaos of two Rhett's interacting with his wife Claire and relatives are almost too much for the family to bear.
